However, these approaches do not fully capture how mobility is experienced in everyday urban life. This article examines how users of the Suroboyo Bus and Wira-Wiri Feeder services in Surabaya interpret and narrate their daily journeys, and assesses civic storytelling as an analytical lens for revealing the gap between transportation modernization policy narratives and the realities of use. This study employs an interpretive qualitative case study that combines phenomenological sensitivity, narrative inquiry, and contextual observation. Eight active users were interviewed in depth regarding their entire travel chain, from accessing the service to arriving at their destination. The findings indicate that uncertainty constitutes a central condition shaping everyday mobility experiences. User evaluations are not limited to in-vehicle experiences, but encompass stages of access, waiting, boarding, intermodal transfer, and arrival. Participants’ narratives are structured around five interrelated themes: distributed security, everyday adaptation, experienced accessibility, emotional burden, and the construction of citizenship. The most positive assessments are directed toward the bus interiors, while negative experiences are concentrated at the periphery of the system, particularly along access routes, waiting points, and transfer processes. This article argues that public transportation functions as an infrastructure of experience, emotion, and urban citizenship, and underscores the importance of more human-centered transportation evaluations that incorporate users’ lived experiences and narrative evidence.
Dwi Prasetyo, Teguh Dwi Putranto, Ade Firmannandya Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/840 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Challenging Virtual Rigidity: Gatekeeping and Organizational Communication of a Remote Housewives Editorial Team in Small Publishing https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/875
Traditional organizational communication theories often characterize virtual workspaces as rigid and limited in building team chemistry. However, this study challenges that assumption by exploring the organizational communication dynamics of Forsenbooks, a small, independent publisher in Indonesia operated entirely by a remote editorial team consisting of six housewives. This research aims to investigate how these women negotiate their dual roles as domestic caretakers and professional gatekeepers in a virtual environment. Utilizing a qualitative case study method, data were gathered through participant observation and in-depth interviews. This paper uses Gatekeeping theory and the Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) perspective as its primary analytical framework. The findings reveal that this team successfully dismantles the limitations of virtual communication. They achieve this by developing an adaptive internal communication strategy, fostering strong chemistry through text-based interactions while maintaining rigorous editorial standards via online platforms. Ultimately, this study concludes that such virtual gatekeeping practices not only ensure business sustainability but also serve as a driving agent for digital literacy and the socio-economic empowerment of housewives in the modern creative industry.
Dian Istiaty, Tria Patrianti Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/875 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Decolonizing Digital Conflict: Epistemic Friction in Indonesian Digital Communication https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/687
Digital communication platforms have transformed how individuals interact, participate in public discourse, and negotiate social meaning. While these platforms enable unprecedented connectivity, they have also intensified the emergence of digital conflict, manifested in polarization, public shaming, and rapid escalation of interpersonal disputes across networked publics. Existing explanations of digital conflict often emphasize technological affordances, algorithmic amplification, or psychological dynamics of online interaction. Although these perspectives provide important insights, they often overlook the cultural and epistemological foundations that shape communication practices across societies. This paper argues that understanding digital conflicts must take into account the interaction between digital infrastructure and the epistemology of communication rooted in culture. Drawing on the Indonesian context, the study introduces the concept of epistemic friction to explain tensions that arise when relational communication traditions encounter digital platforms structured around visibility, immediacy, and engagement. Indonesian communication practices have long been shaped by cultural orientations emphasizing harmony, contextual sensitivity, and the preservation of social relationships. When such harmony-oriented communication operates in digital environments that reward expressive visibility and emotional engagement, misalignments may emerge, contributing to the escalation of digital conflict. By conceptualizing digital conflict through the lens of epistemic friction, this paper contributes to ongoing efforts to decolonize communication theory. Rather than treating Western models of communicative confrontation as universal, the framework proposed here foregrounds indigenous communication epistemologies as valuable sources of theoretical insight. The study therefore offers a culturally grounded perspective for understanding digital communication dynamics in Indonesia and other societies where relational communication traditions intersect with globally standardized digital platforms.
Prahastiwi Utari, Pramana Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/687 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Clickbait, Rage Bait and The Contestation of Human Rights in Digital Public: A Comparative Study of Malaysia and Indonesia https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/632
The study conceptualises comment sections on social media platforms such as TikTok, Threads or Instagram and others as arenas where emotional expression intersects with civic reasoning and rights-based claims. Using a qualitative comparative content analysis, selected cases from Malaysian and Indonesian media accounts employing clickbait and rage-inducing narratives are examined. The analysis focuses on discursive patterns in user responses, including moral positioning, blame attribution, calls for accountability, rights assertions, exclusionary rhetoric, and polarised affective reactions. By comparing how digital publics engage with news stories involving rights related issues such as freedom of expression, religious sensitivities, and minority protections, the study explores whether emotionally charged raming fosters meaningful civic deliberation or intensifies antagonistic discourse. Through this comparative lens, the paper contributes to emerging scholarship on digital culture, civic engagement, and the evolving contestation of human rights in Southeast Asia.
Fauziah Hassan, Muhammad Raqib Mohd Sofian, Nurul Fathihin Mohd Noor Shah, Sofia Hayati Yusoff, Poppy Febriana Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/632 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Ritual Communication and Cultural Resilience in Digital Space: A Netnographic SPEAKING Model Analysis of Peresean in the Modernization Era https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/904
Modernization and digitalization have transformed traditional rituals into digital content, raising questions about the continuity of their communicative structures. This study analyzes the transformation of the Peresean ritual on TikTok using a netnographic approach and Dell Hymes SPEAKING model. By examining 20 videos uploaded between 2024 and 2026, the study maps how ritual communication is reconfigured in digital space. The findings indicate that the elements of Setting, Participant, and Act Sequence undergo significant transformation: the ritual arena shifts from a physical community space to an algorithmic digital stage, participants expand to include active online audiences, and ritual sequences become fragmented due to short video formats. However, the elements of Norms and Key remain consistent, as sportsmanship values are reaffirmed through audience interaction in the comment section. The element of Genre also reveals variations in representation across account categories, including documentation, tourism promotion, and entertainment framing. These results demonstrate that digital modernization does not eliminate ritual meaning but reconfigures its communicative structure through symbolic adaptation and audience negotiation. The study contributes to ritual communication research by applying the SPEAKING model to analyze cultural resilience within the social media.
Ilmining Mandiri, Mite Setiansah , Wiwik Novianti Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/904 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Communication Patterns of Minang Students in Yogyakarta in Maintaining Good Relationships with Parents https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/889
Digital communication within migrant student families plays a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of relationships between children and their parents. This study aims to describe the communication patterns of Minangkabau students who migrate to Yogyakarta in sustaining their relationships with their parents. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews. A purposive sampling technique was used to select informants aligned with the research objectives: Minangkabau students who had migrated for at least 6 months and regularly communicated with their parents via digital media. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and prolonged engagement. The findings indicate that the coordinative pattern emerged as the most dominant pattern across the three informant pairs. This pattern is characterized by communication triggered by financial and academic administrative needs, accompanied by rational explanations, clarification, negotiation, and parental validation before decisions are made. Educational demands shape the coordinative pattern, students’ financial dependence, Minangkabau cultural values embedded in the tradition of merantau, an interdependent family relational structure, and the support of digital communication technologies. These findings demonstrate that family communication in the context of educational migration not only maintains emotional closeness but also serves as a mechanism for shared decision making.
David Dwi Pangga, Suciati Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/889 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Participatory Communication Model for Strengthening Partnership Relations between PT Sukses Mantap Sejahtera and Sugarcane Farmers in Dompu Regency https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/915
Agribusiness partnerships between companies and farmers often face communication challenges that may affect the sustainability of the partnership. This study aims to analyze the implementation of participatory communication in the agribusiness partnership between PT Sukses Mantap Sejahtera (PT SMS) and sugarcane farmers in Dompu Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis, and analyzed using thematic analysis with source triangulation. The findings show that participatory communication is reflected in two-way dialogue, transparency of information, relatively equal relationships, and farmers’ involvement in decision-making related to sugarcane business management. These communication practices help build trust, strengthen coordination, and support the sustainability of the partnership. The study also proposes a participatory communication model emphasizing dialogic interaction and information transparency as the foundation of company–farmer relations.
Muhammad Iqbal, Hari Akbar Sugiantoro Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/915 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Marketing Communication Strategy through Instagram social media @meraciklatte to increase consumer purchasing interest https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/941
This study aims to analyze the marketing communication strategy through the Instagram social media account @meraciklatte in increasing consumer purchasing interest in coffee and matcha sachet products. One type of content they access is Islamic content. However, the themes most commonly associated with this content remain a topic of ongoing debate. This study aims to examine Generation Z's preferences for Islamic content on social media within tertiary-level religious studies programs. A mixed-methods approach was employed, beginning with a quantitative survey followed by qualitative analysis, with data collected via a Google Form completed by 86 undergraduate students at a state Islamic religious university in Samarinda. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The findings indicate that (1) the most popular social media platforms are Instagram and WhatsApp, (2) Generation Z tends to be uniform in consuming Islamic messages, with 83.7% preferring Islamic content that includes humor, followed by inspirational themes, for various reasons. These results suggest that adding humorous elements to Islamic content can help make these messages more accessible, understandable, and relevant to Generation Z. This study recommends that Muslim influencers incorporate humor into their Islamic content, provided it does not overshadow the core message. This approach aims to capture Generation Z’s attention and foster full engagement with Islamic messages.
Afita Nur Hayati, Ramadiva Muhammad Akhyar Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/798 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Activist Public Relations in Heritage Preservation: Prefigurative Practices and Affective Publics in Lasem, Indonesia https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/934
This study reconceptualizes public relations (PR) as practice by analyzing how communicative processes in Lasem, Indonesia are embedded in community-based heritage preservation, operating as enacted, relational, and activist practices rather than as representational and campaign-oriented functions. It explores how prefigurative practices and affective digital mobilization sustain heritage while strengthening Lasem’s reputation as a heritage city (Kota Pusaka). Using a qualitative case study, data were collected through interviews with community actors, academics, media activist, tourism entrepreneurs, young digital communicators and visitors, complemented by participant observation and digital content analysis. Findings show that heritage communication operates through embodied enactment, narrative legitimacy, affective circulation, and micropolitical negotiation. Communication is embedded in everyday practice rather than promotional strategy. Prefigurative practices generate authenticity and symbolic legitimacy, while tourists amplify narratives through digital storytelling, forming affective publics that enhance visibility and credibility. This study extends activist PR beyond campaigns, integrates prefiguration into communication theory, and highlights affective publics in shaping place-based reputation.
Ana Mariani, Saudah Saudah, Danu Prasetyo Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/934 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Digital Media Management Strategy of the Protocol Division Region Secretariat of Yogyakarta Special Region Through E-Government https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/681
The use of digital media by the government has become an important part of e-government implementation to enhance information transparency and public communication. However, the management of digital media is not always carried out by units that have a formal public communication function, leading to the emergence of dynamic management practices at the unit level. This research analyzes the practice of managing digital media by local government Protocol units within the framework of e-government through the perspective of institutional role differentiation to understand the division of institutional roles that influence digital media management within government organizations. This research uses a qualitative approach with case study methods, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. The research results show differences in the interpretation of e government practices at the unit level. The Protocol Unit in media practice functions more as a means of reporting regional leader activities rather than as a strategic communication medium. These findings indicate that the practice of digital communication within work units is influenced by the division of roles and functions of authority, as well as the work culture of local government bureaucracy. With an institutional perspective, this research emphasizes the importance of understanding the internal dynamics of the bureaucracy in assessing the practice of government digital media management through e-government studies.
Claresta Putri, Fajar Junaedi Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/681 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 The Implementation of Influencer Marketing Strategies by Bakso Pikat to Increase Brand Awareness through TikTok https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/690
Influencer marketing strategies are increasingly developing as a digital marketing communication approach, especially for new culinary brands that utilize algorithm-based platforms such as TikTok. However, its implementation is still dominated by measurements of reach, impressions, and engagement, without integrating exploratory behavior indicators such as click-through rate (CTR) into the process of building brand awareness. This study aims to analyze the implementation of influencer marketing strategies by Bakso Pikat to increase brand awareness on the TikTok platform. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the owner, marketing manager, digital marketer, and two consumers of Bakso Pikat, which were reinforced with documentation of promotional content and TikTok account insights. The findings show that an influencer marketing strategy implemented systematically through collaborations with macro, micro, and nano-influencer along with the integration of click-through rate (CTR) elements via call-to-action can encourage a shift in audience behavior from the interest phase to the search phase in the AISAS model. Click-through rate (CTR) serves as an indicator of active audience engagement that facilitates information exploration regarding business profiles and locations. This strategy successfully contributes to brand awareness at the levels of brand recognition and brand recall within a specific product category. The study demonstrates that behavioral indicators such as click-through rate (CTR), can be used as strategic tools to building brand awareness for a new culinary brand on the TikTok platform.
Rizqi Hadratun Nisa, Sovia Sitta Sari Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/690 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Message Analysis in The Film “Jodoh 3 Bujang” https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/882
This study aims to analyze the moral, social, and cultural messages in the film Jodoh 3 Bujang (Three Bachelors' Destiny), which features Bugis-Makassar traditions such as uang panai (bride price), twin marriages, siri’ (dignity/honor), and arranged marriage. Using a qualitative descriptive research method, the analysis is carried out through observation of scenes, dialogues, and visual symbols, as well as applying Roland Barthes' semiotic theory to examine how the film shapes meaning and audience perception. The results show that the film contains important messages about customs, the importance of family communication, sibling solidarity, and efforts to maintain dignity amid modernity. The comedic elements make the delivery of these messages lighter and easier to understand, so the film not only entertains but also increases understanding of cultural values and encourages audiences to reflect on the relevance of traditions today.
Dahniar Niar, Ken Amasita Saadjad, Mohamand Rizky, Wanda Ramadhani Ibrahim Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/882 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Sensemaking as a Cultural Practice in Managing Communication Ambiguity Organization: An Organizational Ethnographic Study at Prospect Institute https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/914
The ability of an organization to interpret ambiguous situations is an important factor in maintaining effective communication and work coordination amidst the increasingly complex dynamics of the organization. The development of the work environment, characterized bt the rapid flow of information, cross-functional interactions, and collaboration among organizational members, increases the potential for ambiguity in communication. These conditions require organizations to have interpretation mechanisms that enable each member to understand information more clearly and build a shared understanding in carrying out work activities. In this study, the sensemaking process is important as a collective effort that enables organizational members to interpret information, clarify the meaning of messages, and align their understanding of the work situation they are facing. This study aims to analyze how sensemaking occurs within the organizational culture at Prospect Institute, particularly in addressing potential communication ambiguities that arise in interactions between members and between divisions. This research uses a qualitative approach with organizational ethnography methods to gain a deep understanding of communication experiences that occur in daily work practices. Data collection was conducted thru in-depth interviews with employes who are directly involved in work activities and organizational coordination processes. The research results indicate thet the organizational culture at Prospect Institute reflects meaning-making practices supported by relatively clear coordibation patterns among the organization’s members. When information is considered ambiguous, organizational members actively seek confirmation thru discussion and direct clarification to ensure a shared understanding. This practice is also evident in the adaptation process for new members, where the organization does not allow new employes to interpret information speculatively, but rather encourages a process of joint explanation and verification to minimize potential misunderstandings. The findings of this research indicate that sensemaking not only functions as an individual interpretation process but also as an organizational cultural practice that strengthens coordination, maintains clarity of communication, and supports the formation of collective understanding in daily work activities. Practically, the results of this research contribute to the Prospect Institute by strengthening organizational communication practices based on clarification, open coordination, and shared learning among organizational members.
Arliza Farah Az Zahra, Alfian Muhazir, Dias Regian Pinkan Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/914 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Social Media Management of the Instagram Account @sdmuhammadiyahparakan Using the Circular Model of Some Approach in Building Relationships with Parents for the 2024- 2025 Period https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/691
Influencer In the digital age, social media has become a potential tool for schools to convey information and establish communication with parents and the community. Unfortunately, many elementary schools are still unaware of the importance of maximizing the use and management of social media to build relationships with parents. Meanwhile, SD Muhammadiyah Parakan utilizes Instagram as a digital communication medium to convey information and establish relationships with parents. This study aims to describe and analyze the management of SD Muhammadiyah Parakan's Instagram account in building relationships with parents’ period 2024- 2025 using The Circular Model of Some approach. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection through documentation and in-depth interviews with the Head of the Media Division of the elementary school, the Instagram Admin of SD Muhamadiyah Parakan, and the parents of the elementary school students. The results of the study prove that SD Muhammadiyah Parakan has implemented digital communication management based on The Circular Model of Some through its Instagram account @sdmuhammadiyahparakan. In terms of share, Instagram is the main medium for sharing school information about teaching and learning activities and student achievements, thereby generating active interaction with parents. In terms of optimize, content is maximized using photography, videography, and structured, characterful narrative texts, accompanied by the use of Instagram features. In terms of manage, team coordination and cooperation are fairly organized, but are still constrained by the team's main responsibility as teachers and the lack of a dedicated platform for social media management. In terms of engage, the school has involved students, parents, and news media through comments on posts, direct messages, and the content production process. This strategy has the potential to actively and massively build relationships with parents, although the school is still not optimal in managing the workflow and performance of the creative media team.
Fadhlan Hafiyyan Muhammad, Adhianty Nurjanah Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/691 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Eco-Digital Sovereignty: Transforming Government Communication and Legal Advocacy for Environmental Justice in the Algorithmic Era https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/776
This study explores the remaking of government communication in response to the climate crisis by transforming the problem posed by algorithmic hegemony (that public policy information fails to reach its audience because of the commercial biases of global platforms’ algorithms) into a case for “digital sovereignty” and the “radical retelling of who the state is in public communication about ecological questions.” Eco-digital sovereignty is a democratic imperative, not merely a technological transition. By providing agencies with the tools for clarity, governance recovers the digital commons for environmental justice. In what ways do they protect the ecologies of truth from the deluge of the alert economy? This study presents a framework for eco-digital sovereignty at the intersection of law and government communication. A qualitative juridical-communicative analysis illustrates the entanglement of state advocacy for the environment on the one hand and platform governance on the other. The analysis uncovers the necessity for government communication to shift from one-to-many broadcasting to an "algorithmically aware" practice, underpinned by legislation ensuring the visibility of environmental justice. This transfiguration is necessary for the voice of the state on ecological protection to prevail in the battle for space in the digital public sphere.
Zulaikha Zulaikha, Sri Astutik, Nevrettia Christantyawati, Suyatno Ladiqi, Jessica Angelina Br Sitanggang Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/776 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Muslim Identity of Indonesian Public Figures on Social Media during Eid al-Fitr https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/859
This study aims to explain how Muslim identity is constructed through Instagram content by Indonesian public figures, specifically within the context of the 1447 H Eid al-Fitr celebration. Employing a qualitative approach rooted in the constructivist paradigm, the study views meaning as the product of interpreting cultural symbols. Roland Barthes' semiotic model is used to analyze signs, symbols, and visual elements across three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The study focuses on three Indonesian Muslim public figures Husein Ja'far Al Hadar, Oki Setiana Dewi, and Zaskia Adya Mecca selected for their high visibility, active social media presence, and consistent representation of Islamic values. Trans TV’s infotainment program Insert responds to these dynamics through a built-in advertising strategy or ad inserts to maintain revenue without disrupting the viewer experience. This study aims to analyze the creative strategies employed by the “Insert” production team in designing in-program advertisements to ensure they appear natural and align with the program’s character. The method used is descriptive qualitative research within a constructivist paradigm. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation with key informants, including assistant producers, scriptwriters, and the marketing team. The results indicate that creative strategies are implemented through four key indicators: message planning based on the integration of content knowledge and procedures; stimulating audience attention through neutral opening techniques and the selection of relevant characters; integrating products into the storyline to blend with the narrative; and managerial coordination to maintain a balance between commercial interests and production aesthetics. This study concludes that a subtle sales approach is effective in maintaining program integrity, despite challenges arising from the tension between the production team’s creative ideals and the client’s commercial constraints. Theoretically, this study reinforces that the message-building process in the media industry is heavily influenced by organizational filters and market pressures.
Nada Nisrina, Filosa Gita Sukmono, Dhimas Aryo Vipha Ananda Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/707 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Community-Based AI Pedagogical Literacy: A Case Study of AI Adoption in Teacher Professional Communities https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/786
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI technologies, has transformed the educational communication ecosystem and reshaped how knowledge is produced, distributed, and interpreted in learning environments. In the context, teachers play important roles not only as users of technology but also as mediators of knowledge and facilitators of pedagogical communication in digitally mediated classrooms. Although research on AI literacy in education continues to grow, many studies emphasize students’ competencies or institutional technology adoption, while limited attention has been given to how teachers collectively interpret and adopt AI within professional learning communities. To position this study within the existing research landscape, a bibliometric analysis using Publish or Perish and VOSviewer was conducted with the keywords “community-bases learning” and “digital literacy teachers.” The mapping highlights the central role of community interaction in connecting teachers’ digital literacy development with pedagogical practices. This study adopts a qualitative case study approach focusing on members of the Persatuan Guru Nahdlatul Ulama (Pergunu) in Bekasi City who participated as beneficiaries in the “AI Ready” AI literacy initiative. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group-discussion, and documentation of training activities. The study examines how teachers interpret, negotiate, and collaboratively integrate AI tools into teaching practices, highlighting the role of professional communities in foresting meaningful AI adoption in education.
Muhamad Handar, Shani Ramadhan Rasyid, Nur Indah Kumala Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/786 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Analysis of the Message in the Film “Cinta Tak Seindah Drama Korea” https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/893
This study aims to analyze messages in the film “Cinta Tak Seindah Drama Korea” as a representation of the fusion of storytelling styles in contemporary cinema. The research method employed a qualitative descriptive approach using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory. The findings reveal that narrative and visual elements are structured to convey messages to the audience. Furthermore, the film uniquely blends storytelling elements characteristic of Korean dramas such as visual aesthetics and dramatic structure while retaining the distinctive traits and narrative approach of Indonesian cinema. Overall, the film “Cinta Tak Seindah Drama Korea” demonstrates the ability of local cinema to both respond to and creatively adapt popular trends. These findings affirm that adapting foreign trends does not immediately erase the identity of local works; rather, it enriches perspectives and strengthens the current position of Indonesian cinema.
Yulfa Nur Hidayah, Ken Amasita Saadjad, Sofia Melita, Nurafni Renidamayanti, Agus Wahyudi Putra Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/893 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Negotiating Authenticity in Instagram Influencer Endorsements: Audience Trust, Purchase Intention, and Digital Promotion https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/829
The growth influence of marketing on social media has transformed the way brands communicate with audiences, particularly on visually driven platforms such as Instagram. Within this environment, authenticity has emerged as a critical factor influencing audience engagement and the effectiveness of endorsement messages. This study aims to examine how authenticity is constructed in influencer endorsement practices and how audiences interpret and respond to such authenticity in the context of Instagram. This research employs a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews and digital observation to explore the perspectives of influencers, audience members, and small business owners who have collaborated with influencers. Data was analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns of meaning related to authenticity, trust, consumer response, and business impact in influencer endorsement communication. The findings reveal that audiences interpret authenticity primarily through honest communication, natural storytelling, and the perceived sincerity of influencers when presenting products. Authenticity plays a central role in building audience trust, which subsequently shapes how audiences evaluate endorsement messages and influences their intention to try or purchase promoted products. The results also indicate that influencer endorsements can generate significant promotional benefits for small businesses by increasing visibility, online engagement, and consumer interest. These findings suggest that authenticity functions as a relational communication process that mediates the relationship between influencers, audiences, and commercial partners. Understanding authenticity as a negotiated and interactive construct provides important insights into digital marketing strategies and contributes to the broader study of influencer communication in the digital economy.
Desmanur Tsalatsa, Harry Fajar Maulana, Hastuti Hastuti Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/829 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Digital Civic Engagement and Policy Misinformation: Hoax Narratives of Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meal Program https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/788
The rapid expansion of digital media ecosystem has accelerated the circulation of misinformation surrounding public policies. In Indonesia, one policy that has recently become the subject of online misinformation is the Free Nutritious Meal Program (Program Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG), a national initiative aimed at improving children’s nutritious and strengthening human capital development. This research examines the dynamics of CBCP within the context of disaster mitigation on the slopes of Mount Merapi, specifically in the Sleman Regency of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. As one of the most active volcanoes globally, Mount Merapi presents a continuous threat that necessitates robust, decentralized communication systems to ensure community resilience. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, this study analyzes the integration of traditional communication tools, such as the kentongan (bamboo slit drum), with modern digital platforms like WhatsApp and community radio. The investigation further evaluates the Sister Village (Desa Persaudaraan) program as a formalized model of participatory communication management. Data was gathered through in-depth interviews with officials from the Yogyakarta Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD DIY), focus group discussions with community leaders and disaster volunteers, participatory observation, and secondary data analysis. The findings indicate that effective disaster communication in Merapi is not merely a product of technological infrastructure but is deeply rooted in social capital, specifically bonding and bridging ties, that foster mutual trust and collective action. A four-quadrant communication framework articulated by institutional informants reveals that community knowledge, monitoring capacity, information dissemination, and response readiness constitute the foundational architecture of regional resilience. However, challenges persist regarding gender representation in strategic leadership and the financial sustainability of community-led media. This study contributes to the third paradigm of development communication by demonstrating how grassroots-led communication contracts and informal social networks constitute the foundational infrastructure of regional resilience.
Past Novel Larasaty, Muhammad Hidayat Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/624 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 CSR Communication Relationship Management of Djarum Foundations’s Social Service in the LKSA Program for Orphanages in Kudus https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/888
Companies have an important role in their surrounding environment through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This development indicates that aerial visuals are becoming increasingly dominant in digital tourism content production. This study aims to provide evidence that the trend of drone cinematography in Yogyakarta is growing, by taking a case study of Vintage Pixel production house as a representation of a production practice that consistently utilizes drone technology. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation of tourism promotional videos uploaded on Vintage Pixel’s Instagram account, interviews with the director, and documentation studies of the produced works. The analysis focuses on identifying the use of drone camera movement features applied to implement specific cinematographic techniques in tourism content. The results show three main findings: the use of the dolly in feature to build focus and dramatic effect, the circle feature to emphasize objects as points of interest through circular movement, and the reveal shot feature to gradually expose the landscape. These three features are consistently used across various analyzed tourism content productions. The findings indicate that the use of drone features is not random, but structured and repetitive as part of a visual strategy. Thus, Vintage Pixel’s production practices can be understood as evidence of the strengthening trend of drone cinematography in tourism promotion in Yogyakarta.
Umar Shiddiq, Budi Dwi Arifianto Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/916 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Community-Based Digital Tourism Communication: Strategies for Promoting Tourism Destinations in Buton Regency https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/842
The rapid expansion of digital communication technologies has transformed the way tourism destinations are promoted and represented. Although perpetual online presence facilitates instantaneous communication and information access, it simultaneously precipitates psychological distress, including fear of missing out and digital anxiety. This study rigorously examines the causal relationship between constant connectivity and FOMO among Generation Z social media users, addressing a critical gap in understanding the emotional toll of digital nativity. A quantitative survey of 130 university students in Indonesia, was analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling, which robustly delineates structural paths and causal influences among latent constructs. Empirical results unequivocally confirm that constant connectivity exerts a significant positive effect on FOMO, with path coefficients indicating strong predictive power. A substantial majority (more than 70%) of respondents exhibited compulsive notification-checking and persistent online vigilance—emblematic of an entrenched "always-on" digital imperative. Correspondingly, prevalent reports of acute anxiety arising from disconnection or missing peer updates substantiate heightened emotional vulnerability. These findings compellingly demonstrate how unrelenting connectivity pressures amplify FOMO, eroding psychological well-being and distorting social perceptions. From a communication vantage point, this illuminates the transformative—and often maladaptive—role of digital platforms in reshaping Generation Z's behavioral norms and affective responses. By furnishing novel empirical evidence on these dynamics, the study advances digital communication scholarship and urgently advocates evidence-based interventions to foster healthier, more balanced social media engagement. Furthermore, the study provides a strategic framework for developers and policymakers to mitigate the deleterious psychological effects inherent in current platform design architectures. Future research should investigate the long-term cognitive implications of these habitual engagement patterns, particularly regarding degradation of attention span and sleep quality.
Fitri Norhabiba, Hasna Nur Lina, Mutiah Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/726 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Empathic Communication in Digital Spaces: Supporting the Mental Health of Cancer Patients https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/883
The importance of verbal and nonverbal communication approaches in digital spaces has become a communication approach used worldwide. This communication approach can be linked to the mental health outcomes of patients with chronic illnesses such as cancer. In communication, empathy means trying to understand another person's perspective on what they are saying. Previous research has analyzed various communication approaches in digital spaces, particularly in relation to the mental health outcomes of cancer patients, but these studies remain limited. The primary objective of this qualitative research study was to explore empathic communication in digital spaces among cancer patients in Medan, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and an analysis of empathic communication perspectives. The analysis revealed that cancer patients struggling to survive rely heavily on verbal communication, through direct guidance and information that can directly motivate them to fight cancer, and non-verbal communication, through text or scenes that also inspire their enthusiasm for surviving the disease. Therefore, it is recommended that an application be developed specifically to assist cancer patients segmented by age, gender, and profession so they can easily access detailed information about empathetic perspectives to achieve mental health.
Ade Rahmawati Siregar, Dewi Kurniawati, Nurbani, Raras Sutatminingsih Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/883 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Interpersonal Communication by Tour Guides in Psychosocial Trauma Healing Services for Child Victims of Landslide Disaster in West Bandung Regency https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/664
Cisarua District landslide caused trauma to the victims. Trauma recovery is a crucial stage in the long process of psychological recovery after a disaster. Post-disaster psychological support is essential to reduce the level of trauma in the community, especially for children. One program implemented by the local government is to provide tourism experiences to tourist destinations. The purpose of this study is to examine and analyze the interpersonal communication of tour guides in the context of psychosocial trauma healing for child landslide victims in Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency in 2026. In this study, the researcher used interpersonal communication theory with the concept of interpersonal communication according to Joseph A. DeVito. This study uses a constructivist paradigm, a qualitative method with a Cresswell case study approach and was conducted at an educational tourism destination selected by the West Bandung Regency Government as a destination for the psychosocial trauma healing program. The research subjects were five people, selected purposively because they were considered capable of providing accurate and relevant information. The data used were qualitative and came from two sources, namely primary and secondary data. The data collection method was carried out through literature studies, interviews, observation, and documentation. The study results show that tour guides apply elements of openness, positivity, support, equality, and empathy in their interpersonal communication to promote trauma healing for children after a disaster. In addition to verbal communication, they also use nonverbal communication through body language and expressions, as well as clothing and decorations at tourist destinations. Trauma healing communication can be delivered by non-medical personnel using an interpersonal communication approach. Tour guides can integrate interpersonal communication techniques into psychosocial trauma healing services for children after a disaster.
Salman Alfarisyi Lesmana, Tresna Wiwitan, Atie Rachmiatie, Rini Rinawati, O Hasbiansyah Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/664 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Gendered Information Seeking and Community Health Communication for Stunting Prevention: Integrating Social Marketing, Nudging and Digital Engagement in Rural Indonesia https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/835
Stunting remains a persistent public health issue in rural Indonesia, driven not only by nutritional deficits but also by communication gaps and gendered dynamics in health information access. This study examines how gender influences information-seeking behaviour and how community-based health communication affects knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to stunting prevention. Using a quantitative survey design, data were collected from mothers of toddlers in a rural village. The findings reveal that exposure to health communication significantly affects knowledge and attitudes, which subsequently influence healthy practices. However, access to information is uneven and shaped by gender roles, social structures, and media exposure. This study proposes an integrated model combining social marketing, nudging strategies, and digital engagement to strengthen community-based interventions. The findings contribute to health communication literature by emphasising gender-sensitive approaches and offering practical implications for designing scalable communication interventions in low resource settings.
Netty Dyah Kurniasari, Iriani Ismail, Farida Nurul Rahmawati, Nikmah Suryandari, Iswari Hariastuti, Prita Dellia, Ana Tsalitsatun Ni'mah Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/835 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Communicating Resilience: Indigenous Knowledge and Community-Based Disaster Self-Mitigation in Rural Indonesia https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/667
Indonesia is a country with a high level of disaster vulnerability, including Sumenep Regency in Madura, which routinely experiences floods, droughts, and tornadoes. The people of Sumenep have developed self-mitigation practices based on local knowledge (indigenous knowledge) despite limited disaster literacy and insufficient formal socialization from government institutions. This study aims to analyse how the ethnographic process of communication shapes and reproduces self-mitigation practices as a community resilience strategy. The research uses a qualitative approach with the ethnographic design of communication in the constructivism paradigm. The informants were purposefully chosen, and they were from BPBD, religious leaders, and people who lived in three villages that are likely to have disasters: Kebunagung, Pasongsongan, and Kertasada. We gathered data through passive participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Then, we analysed the data in relation to the components of communication situations, communicative events, and communicative actions. The results show that practices such as village rokad during floods, istisqa' prayers during droughts, and symbolic rituals of "cutting the wind" during tornadoes are not just spiritual expressions but are cultural communication systems that build social solidarity, transmit risk knowledge, and strengthen collective resilience. Symbol, narrative, and ritual-based communication serve as an adaptive mechanism that organizes the community's response to disaster threats. This research confirms that cultural communication is an important foundation in community-based mitigation and needs to be integrated into formal risk communication policies. This study contributes to the development of community-based disaster communication studies in the context of Southeast Asia.
Nikmah Suryandari, Qolbi Nur Hidayanto, Farida Nurul Rahmawati, Netty Dyah Kurniasari, Juariyah Juariyah Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/667 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Can Trust Be Restored? Institutional Communication in Addressing Sexual Violence in Indonesian Higher Education https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/686
Sexual violence in higher education has emerged as a critical issue that threatens the safety of academic communities and undermines public trust in educational institutions. In Indonesia, increasing reports of sexual violence on campuses have prompted regulatory responses and the establishment of institutional mechanisms for prevention and handling. However, the effectiveness of these mechanisms largely depends on how institutions manage communication in preventing, responding to, and addressing such cases. This study examines how institutional communication operates in addressing sexual violence within Indonesian higher education institutions and how it relates to the restoration of public trust. Using a qualitative multiple case study approach, this research investigates three Indonesian public universities that have implemented institutional frameworks for the prevention and handling of sexual violence. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with institutional actors, including members of prevention task forces, faculty, administrators, and students, as well as through document analysis. The findings reveal that institutional communication plays a pivotal role in shaping transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in handling sexual violence cases. Effective communication practices not only facilitate coordination among institutional actors but also contribute to rebuilding trust among campus communities and the broader public. The study highlights that communication governance within institutions is essential in addressing sexual violence as both a crisis and a structural issue. By demonstrating how communication practices influence institutional credibility, this research contributes to broader discussions on public trust, institutional accountability, and social impact in higher education governance.
Vinda Maya Setianingrum, Pramana, Puspita Sari Sukardani, Rifqi Abdul Aziz Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/686 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Micro-Affiliate Persuasion Strategies in Banjar Cultural Communication within TikTok Affiliate Ecosystem in South Kalimantan https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/886
The development of the creator economy on social media has given rise to new digital marketing practices through the TikTok Affiliate program, where creators act as intermediaries for product promotion while earning commissions from sales. In practice, micro-affiliates rely not only on commercial promotional strategies but also utilize personal, cultural, and affective communication approaches to build rapport with their audiences. This study aims to analyze how micro-affiliate persuasion strategies are constructed within Banjar cultural communication within the TikTok Affiliate ecosystem in South Kalimantan. This study used a qualitative approach with content analysis of TikTok video content produced by five micro-affiliate creators actively promoting skincare products. Data were collected through observation of video content, digital documentation, and categorization of communication elements that emerged within the content, such as narrative form, use of local language, visual representation of the body, affective performance, and purchase strategies. The results indicate that the persuasive strategies used by micro-affiliates are formed through three main patterns. First, relational persuasion, manifested through narratives of personal experiences and the use of Banjarese language to create cultural rapport with the audience. Second, demonstrative persuasion, which involves using the creator's body as a visual medium to demonstrate the use and effectiveness of skincare products. Third, implicit economic persuasion, which displays pricing information or promotions without a direct call to purchase. The findings of this study indicate that micro-affiliates function not only as digital marketing agents but also as mediators of cultural communication, connecting digital consumption practices with local identities. Thus, TikTok Affiliate practices are not merely platform economic activities but also a communication process involving the production of cultural meaning within the social media space.
Noviana Sari Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/886 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 The Role of Participatory Communication among PNPM Urban Facilitators in Sustaining Community Institutions After the Program’s Termination https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/901
The post-Reformasi introduction of PNPM marked a shift in Indonesia’s development paradigm toward community-driven approaches. PNPM positioned citizens as active agents across planning, implementation, and evaluation, and framed poverty as rooted in the weakening of moral virtues within community life. Facilitators were therefore tasked with enabling social learning and internalizing PNPM’s values among residents. This literature-based qualitative study examines how participatory development communication contributed to behavioral change and institutional sustainability after PNPM ended in 2016. The findings show that facilitators employed participatory communication characterized by egalitarian dialogue, problem-posing methods, iterative reflection and action (praxis), the development of critical consciousness, and an ethical foundation built on trust and humility. They also practiced authentic communication emphasizing honesty, openness, and compassion. The integration of these approaches—participatory authentic communication—strengthened community empowerment by fostering sincerity, care, and solidarity. These moral foundations helped sustain community institutions such as the Lembaga Keswadayaan Masyarakat (LKM), even after PNPM’s formal termination.
Rochmad Effendy, Dodot Sapto Adi, Aryo Prakoso Wibowo, Yuntawati Fristin Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/901 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 From Corporate Narratives to Public Trust: Exploring CSR Communication and Social Impact in Southeast Asia’s Digital Era https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/954
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has increasingly emerged as a pivotal mechanism through which corporations in Southeast Asia build public trust and deliver measurable social impact. In the digital era, the communication of CSR activities through online platforms has transformed the way organizations engage with stakeholders and society at large. This study investigates the relationship between CSR communication strategies, public trust, and social impact among corporations operating in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Employing a systematic literature; review and qualitative content analysis of peer-reviewed studies indexed in Scopus (2020–2025), this paper examines how digital CSR communication channels, transparency, and civic engagement mediate corporate-society relationships. Findings reveal that companies that integrate transparent, digitally mediated CSR communication significantly enhance public trust and generate sustainable social impact across local communities. The study further identifies key communication challenges including digital literacy disparities, cultural variation in CSR perception, and the gap between CSR disclosure and actual community outcomes. In this environment, the absence of verification often leads to reputational harm, financial scams, and the rapid spread of misleading information. This paper explores the Islamic principle of tabayyun—verification before accepting or disseminating information, as an ethical framework for responsible digital communication. Drawing upon Qur’anic guidance in Surah al-Hujurat (49:6), the study situates tabayyun within Islamic communication ethics emphasizing trust (amanah), justice (‘adl), and the protection of human dignity. The discussion examines how digital virality, clickbait culture, and online scams exploit the lack of user verification. While cases such as viral social media controversies illustrate the phenomenon, the paper extends the discussion to broader issues of digital misinformation and deception. It argues that tabayyun offers both a moral and practical framework for navigating contemporary information ecosystems by promoting critical verification, ethical restraint, and responsible sharing practices. Ultimately, the study highlights how Islamic ethical principles can contribute to global conversations on digital media responsibility, misinformation management, and the preservation of social trust in networked societies.
Rosninawati Hussin, Suria Hanni A. This study aims to analyze how online media, specifically Kompas.com and Detik.com, frame news regarding this incident and how the media constructs reality concerning the image of the police institution. The method used is a qualitative descriptive approach with framing analysis. Data was collected through observation techniques of news texts from the period of August 28–31, 2025. This study analyzes 6 news articles, 3 from Kompas.com and 3 from Detik.com. The results show that the two media outlets have differences in framing the event. Kompas.com focuses more on human rights issues, security policies, and shaping the image of the police as an institution facing a crisis of trust. Meanwhile, Detik.com highlights individual violations by officers as well as the process of internal disciplinary enforcement, thus portraying the Indonesian National Police (Polri) as a responsive institution that is undergoing reform. Both share similarities in giving negative assessments of officer actions and supporting resolution steps through internal police mechanisms. Reporting by Kompas.com and Detik.com not only conveys facts but also constructs social reality regarding the Polri, which influences public perception of the police institution.
Ida Kusuma Ningrum, Herlambang Jati Kusumo Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/911 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Continuity-Based Environmental Communication: Ecological Persistence in Observational Documentary https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/895
Environmental communication has traditionally emphasized crisis framing, advocacy narratives, and audience impact, positioning documentary film as a persuasive instrument. Recent relational perspectives, however, suggest that ecological meaning may also emerge through everyday practice rather than explicit rhetorical confrontation. This study examines how an observational documentary can function as environmental communication through the articulation of routine ecological practices. Using a qualitative interpretative approach, the study conducts close textual analysis of the 24-minute documentary Pusenai – The Last Dayak Basap (2018), focusing on recurring practices, scene sequencing, editing structure, and visual contrast. The findings show that environmental meaning is constructed through the sustained representation of everyday activities, including rattan weaving, forest foraging, communal interaction, and cultural transmission. These practices are mediated through repetition, duration, and continuity, allowing ecological relations to emerge as lived and ongoing conditions rather than as crisis-driven narratives. The study proposes ecological persistence as an analytical concept describing the continuity of human–nature relations as structured within observational documentary form. This perspective extends environmental communication beyond persuasion-centered paradigms by highlighting continuity-based representation as a significant mode of ecological articulation. The findings also suggest that environmental communication may operate through perceptual visibility rather than explicit persuasion.
Fajaria Menur Widowati, Sri Widayati, Feriz Rizki Aditya Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/895 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 The Digitalizing Women’s Social Capital: Community-Based Communication and Gendered Agency in Rural Food Systems https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/929
This research examines communication practices in community-based organisations to increase women's and family health social capital through food diversification in rural communities, especially in Madura, Indonesia. The analysis focuses on the role of traditional women’s networks in communication for development approaches and on how they are increasingly harvested for specific purposes and integrated into institutions through various digital platforms, such as WhatsApp groups. This hybridisation enables collective learning, increases nutritional awareness and assists in negotiating household food decisions within a patriarchal cultural milieu.

The data, surveys and interviews were recorded in Sumenep and Pamekasan. Results indicate that while women maintain strong social networks and relationships in their communities, they typically lack formal authority over household food expenditures. By transmitting information and fostering a sense of togetherness, digital community communication empowers women to reach out to their peers. As a result, women are able to champion local foods such as corn, tubers and traditional spices as desirable nutritious substitutes for rice.

This study integrates participatory communication (Middleton) and persuasive communication (Yale Model) lines of research to propose a community-centred digital communication platform framework. This framework leverages social capital to facilitate gendered agency in rural development. The study offers an innovative perspective by framing “digitalised social capital” not merely as technology adoption but as a hybrid communication system that disrupts collective norms and household food management.

This study contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) as localised digital communication interwoven within women’s community networks can improve food security resilience and gender-inclusive development for rural South & Southeast Asian communities.
Farida Nurul Rahmawati, Nikmah Suryandari, Netty Dyah Kurniasari, Ferry Adhidarma Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/929 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Exploring Women's Leadership Communication in Masculine Logistics Industry: A Qualitative Study in the Delivery Service Sector https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/907
This research critically analyzes how women's leadership is constructed, interpreted, and negotiated within a male-dominated delivery service organization. Using a qualitative case study approach, this research aims to explore how female leaders build authority, gain acceptance, and manage power dynamics in a masculine work culture. The findings of this study indicate that women's leadership is shaped by emotional-relational communication practices that emphasize empathy, listening skills, and responsibility, but is often limited by patriarchal norms that influence employe perceptions and interactions. Female leaders employ adaptive strategies such as emotional management and relational network building to maintain their professionalism and legitimacy as leaders. The results of this study also confirm that women's leadership in the masculine sector is dynamic, but still negotiated and has the potential to shape a more inclusive communication culture. Grounded in Cultural Identity Theory and Co-Cultural Communication Theory, it analyzes how a marginalized traditional art community strategically navigates identity through symbolic alignment, structural adjustment, and engagement with institutional actors. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research draws on in-depth interviews with performers, cultural leaders, and community representatives, complemented by documentation and direct observation of performances. The findings identify four key patterns: symbolic assimilation via shared mythological references and terminology; the regulated reframing of trance practices to reshape public perception; religious and institutional affiliations to strengthen moral and structural legitimacy; and aesthetic innovation to attract younger audiences. These adaptive strategies indicate that Jaranan Thik does not merge into the dominant Reyog tradition but instead negotiates recognition through selective alignment while maintaining its essential ritual foundations. By situating the analysis within localized cultural hierarchies, the study broadens the scope of Cultural Identity Theory and Co-Cultural Communication Theory and underscores communicative agency as vital to cultural sustainability.
Oki Cahyo Nugroho, Widodo Muktiyo, Sri Hastjarjo, Drajat Tri Kartono Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/659 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Media Convergence Strategy of Radio Republik Indonesia Yogyakarta in Reaching Generation Z https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/921
The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed media consumption patterns, particularly among Generation Z, who increasingly access information through various digital platforms. However, increased digital access and participation are not always accompanied by strengthened digital security. This study aims to analyze how urban women farmer groups construct and negotiate digital security literacy within platform economy practices, and to identify the gap between digital inclusion and account security sovereignty. This study fills a theoretical gap in the digital inclusion and digital literacy literature, which tends to emphasize individual access and skills without considering the distribution of security control based on social and gender relations. The study used a qualitative case study approach with one women’s farmer group in Malang City, Indonesia, involving eight informants (six members and two marketplace administrators). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and observations of digital communication practices. The results indicate that although the group’s digital engagement is high, centralized marketplace account management and password-sharing practices within the domestic sphere create a sense of delegated control. Digital security is understood as a matter of interpersonal trust, rather than systematic procedures, thus giving rise to relational vulnerabilities. The conclusion is that digital inclusion does not automatically guarantee digital security; Security sovereignty depends on the distribution of control within domestic and collective structures, so security literacy needs to be understood as a relational social practice.
Lian Agustina Setiyaningsih, Irma Mufita Yulistiowati, Muhammad Hanif Fahmi, Firmando Sion Prayoga Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/876 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Interpersonal Communication Dynamics Relationships Between the mother and Child With ADHD https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/956
The mother–child relationship is a crucial foundation for a child’s growth. However, the dynamics of communication become more complex when a child has ADHD. Its characteristics—impulsivity, difficulty sustaining attention, and emotional instability—often lead to a gap in the interpretation of messages between mother and child. This condition not only triggers repeated miscommunication but also shapes interaction patterns characterized by emotional tension, excessive correction, and reactive responses from both parties. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method within a constructivist paradigm. The research informants consisted of key informants—two muslim mothers with children with ADHD and a supporting informant, a child clinical psychologist. Research data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation of the mothers’ social media. The aim of the study was to examine the role of mothers in managing their own and their children’s emotions to strengthen the relationship between mothers and children with ADHD through interpersonal communication. The results indicate that emotional regulation is a key factor in the upbringing of children with ADHD. Mothers who are able to regulate their own and their child’s emotions, and who employ reflective, consistent, and empathetic communication, successfully reduce the intensity of tantrums, improve behavioral consistency, and foster harmonious interactions. Strategies such as self-regulation, cooling down, the use of soothing touch, and communication when the child is emotionally stable have proven effective. Professional support, a conducive environment, and the integration of Islamic parenting values (patience, compassion, and setting a good example) strengthen emotional regulation in both mother and child and support the child’s overall positive character development.
Sofia Rizki Irma, Ani Yuningsih, Ike Junita Triwardhani, Rini Rinawati, Anne Ratnasari Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/956 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Online Promotions Strategy Through the PESO Model Approach on Instagram @akkarjuicebar in Increasing the Number of Consumers in 2025 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/698
Changes in modern society’s lifestyle shows a significant shift toward healthier living patterns. From the perspective of communication studies, the novel is understood as a medium that actively produces and represents meanings about gender relations to its audience. This study examines the representation of violence experienced by the character Firdaus and her views toward men in Nawal El Saadawi's novel Woman at Point Zero. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through library research and document analysis, this study analyzes selected excerpts categorized into two groups: excerpts depicting Firdaus's experiences of violence and excerpts reflecting her views toward men. The analysis was conducted using Stuart Hall's theory of representation through a constructionist approach encompassing the conceptual system and the language system, as well as Simone de Beauvoir's existential feminism through the concepts of The Other and immanence-transcendence. The findings reveal that Woman at Point Zero represents the violence experienced by Firdaus as a systematic and structural pattern that permeates multiple institutional domains family, marriage, personal relations, and the state perpetrated by different male figures yet consistently constructing the same knowledge: that Firdaus's subordinate position as an object is normalized across all layers of society. This cross-institutional accumulation of violence drives Firdaus's existential journey from immanence as a passive The Other toward transcendence as a critically conscious subject, manifesting in six progressive dimensions of her views toward men from existential anger to total structural rejection of the patriarchal system.
Fatiya Aulia Muthmainnah, Rinta Arina Mansikana Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/919 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Batik Trusmi Cirebon's Online Promotion Strategy to Increase Sales Through Instagram @btbatiktrusmi in 2024 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/905
Promotional strategies through social media are a crucial aspect of digital marketing communications, particularly for the batik industry facing competition in the digital era. This study aims to describe the online promotional strategy implemented by Batik Trusmi Cirebon through its Instagram handle @btbatiktrusmi throughout 2024 and to analyze the response and engagement levels of followers to published promotional content. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques included documentation and in-depth interviews. Purposive sampling was employed to obtain informants aligned with the research objectives: marketing managers, marketing staff, and Trusmi batik consumers. Data validity was tested using source triangulation to ensure the validity of the information obtained. The results showed that the promotional strategy was implemented through the use of hard-selling, educational, and branding content tailored to the productive age market segment (25 years and older). Instagram insight analysis was used to identify audience population, interests, viewing duration, and interaction levels such as likes, comments, and shares. Online data is then compared with offline sales data to identify the most potential market segments. This strategy demonstrates that optimally utilizing Instagram features can increase engagement and contribute to increased product sales. The implementation of the promotion mix on Instagram includes advertising through Meta Ads (ads awareness and ads hard selling), public relations through educational and responsive content, sales promotion through certain period promos, direct marketing through comment and direct message features, and event marketing through offline event promotions published on Instagram.
Irfan Irfan Dwi Hermawan, Suciati Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/905 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Between Efficiency and Authenticity: Generation Z Students Negotiating Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Social Media Practices https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/948
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into digital platforms has transformed the way social media content is produced and managed. For Generation Z, particularly university students, use of AI has become part of everyday communication practices that not only offer efficiency but also raise questions about authenticity and ethics in self-representation. This study aims to analyze how Generation Z students negotiate the use of AI in social media practices, particularly in the context of self-presentation. This research employs an interpretive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews with seven communication studies students who actively use social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. Results show that students actively use technology, including AI tools such as ChatGPT and editing applications like CapCut and Canva, in the content production process. However, AI is not used comprehensively; rather, it is selective, mainly to assist with idea development and caption writing. Students still maintain control over personal aspects to preserve the authenticity of their identities. The main findings indicate a negotiation between efficiency and authenticity in self-presentation practices. Although AI provides convenience in content production, students set boundaries when using technology to maintain authenticity and credibility with their audience. Additionally, these practices are influenced by ethical considerations, including the values of honesty (sidq), intention (niyyah), and caution against excessive self-display (riya’) on social media. This study contributes to the field of digital communication by demonstrating that the use of AI in social media practices is not deterministic but rather a process of negotiation involving technological, social, and ethical dimensions. These findings also enrich the literature by offering a contextual perspective on Generation Z in Indonesia, helping to understand the dynamics of self-presentation in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
Dwi Maharani, Septiawan Santana Kurnia, Neni Yulianita, Anne Ratnasari, Oji Kurniadi Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/948 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Representation Moral Message of Sacrifice by the Sandwich Generation in the Film Home Sweet Loan https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/884
The sandwich generation phenomenon refers to a situation where individuals in their productive years are forced to bear dual responsibilities: taking care of their parents and other family members who are still dependent on them. In Indonesia, the sacrifices made by those in the sandwich generation are often seen as a moral obligation of the family, without any consideration for the well-being of the individual. This perspective isn’t only reflected in social practices but is also perpetuated and legitimized through popular media, including films. This study aims to analyze the moral messages conveyed about the sacrifices of the sandwich generation in the film Home Sweet Loan, using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic approach. A qualitative descriptive method was used in this research. The analysis focused on the relationships between signs, objects, and interpreters, thereby uncovering the moral messages conveyed in the film’s narrative. The results show that Home Sweet Loan portrays the sacrifices of the sandwich generation through the structural, emotional, and financial burdens faced by the main characters. Such sacrifices are presented as actions that are considered normal, often go unnoticed, and are imposed in the name of family responsibilities. Yet, the film also conveys important moral messages about the importance of empathy, equal roles within the family, the limits of sacrifice, and an individual’s courage in protecting their own well-being. This research contributes to the study of film semiotics and media studies by showing how films shape and challenge societal perceptions of the sandwich generation phenomenon in Indonesia.
Asriana Syamsudin, Ken Amasita Saadjad, Nurfita Waaso, Mohammad Dewantara, Sartika Hader Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/884 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Content Analysis and Social Construction of Power and Resistance in Dressrosa Arc of One Piece Anime: A Foucauldian Perspective https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/918
This study examines the construction of power and resistance in the Dressrosa Arc of the One Piece anime through qualitative content analysis and social construction theory. Popular media functions as an arena where social meanings are shaped, given meaning, and widely distributed through narratives, symbols, and visual representations. Using Michel Foucault's power theory framework, this research analyzes how power is represented through discourse, normalization, and knowledge-power relations in the Dressrosa Arc. The research method employs qualitative content analysis on 118 episodes (629-746) with systematic coding procedures based on Foucault's theoretical framework. The findings reveal that power in Dressrosa is constructed through five main categories: power discourse (WK), truth production (PK), normalization of domination (ND), knowledge-power relations (RPK), and resistance practices (PR). Visual symbols and narrative structures play a crucial role in legitimizing authoritarian power through manipulation of information, memory control, and systematic violence. The analysis demonstrates that resistance emerges through solidarity, collective action, and counter-narratives that challenge dominant power structures. This study contributes to communication science by demonstrating how popular media constructs power meanings through audiovisual texts and how audiences interpret power dynamics and resistance symbolically. The findings provide insights into media literacy, critical analysis of popular culture, and understanding of contemporary power relations.
Muhammad Zufarrafif Faizaristo, Alfian Muhazir, M.A Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/918 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700 Influencer Communication Strategies in Building Personal Branding on Social Media https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/813
The rapid growth of social media has transformed the way individuals communicate, construct identity, and build influence in digital environments. Within this context, influencers play an important role in shaping audience perceptions, promoting products, and disseminating information through online platforms. This study aims to analyze the communication strategies used by local influencers in Baubau City to build personal branding on social media and to examine differences between influencers who consciously develop personal branding and those whose branding emerges organically. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach to explore influencer communication practices within their natural digital environments. Data were collected through observation, in depth interviews, and documentation involving three local influencers who actively produce content on social media. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman -qualitative analysis model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that influencers produce content for multiple purposes, including gaining recognition, supporting local businesses, and generating economic benefits through digital collaborations. Storytelling, simple language, and audienceoriented communication styles were identified as the main strategies used to deliver messages effectively. The study also found differences in personal branding awareness among influencers. Some influencers deliberately design their branding through consistent content themes, slogans, and distinctive communication styles, while others develop their online identities gradually through ongoing interaction with audiences. Authenticity and ethical communication practices were also found to be essential for building audience trust and sustaining credibility. Overall, the study highlights the importance of strategic communication, authenticity, and content consistency in developing personal branding among local influencers. The findings contribute to the understanding of influencer communication within regional digital ecosystems and provide practical insights for emerging influencers seeking to build sustainable online identities.
Ld. On the other hand, increased exposure to sustainability messages has also raised doubts about the credibility of environmental claims, thus placing consumer trust as a crucial factor in purchasing decisions. This study aims to analyze the influence of green attribute communication on electric vehicle purchase intentions with green trust as a mediating variable. Green attribute communication is represented through green brand image, green perceived quality, and green perceived value. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey method of 200 millennial respondents working in the SCBD area of Jakarta. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that all dimensions of green attribute communication had a positive and significant effect on green trust and green purchase intention. In addition, green trust was proven to act as a mediating variable that strengthens the relationship between green attribute communication and purchase intention. These findings confirm that sustainability communication not only shapes consumer perceptions but also plays a role in building trust as a psychological mechanism that encourages sustainable consumption behavior. This research contributes to the development of green marketing and sustainability communication studies by positioning green attributes as a message construct that influences consumer perceptions and trust in the context of electric vehicles.
virna estriana Copyright (c) 2026 Jogjakarta Communication Conference (JCC) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jcc-indonesia.id/proceeding/index.php/jcc/article/view/872 Tue, 30 Jun 2026 00:00:00 +0700
